Creative Journal and Creative Writing

A Creative Journal is Great Practice for Creative Writing

If you’ve ever heard or read anything about becoming a writer, you’ve probably heard one very important tip. Write as much as you can every day. Writing isn’t quite like riding a bike. If you stop writing for 5 years, you’re not going to be as good as you were, let alone better.

If you want to be a writer, you need to write all the time. A great idea is to set aside some time every day. If you are working on a story, poem, or other piece of writing, you might get stuck sometimes and find you aren’t able to completely fill your writing time in.

This is where a creative journal comes in. Writing in your journal can help fulfill your writing quota for the day. This will also help you to improve your writing skills. Just writing, even without correcting it, will help your writing technique and skills.

You can also practice your creative writing in your journal. There is no reason why you can’t also write stories, poems, and other creative writing pieces in your journal. You might even decide to have a writer’s notebook just for this.

Use a Creative Journal for Creative Writing Prompts and Creative Writing Ideas

Journaling is perfect for finding creative writing ideas. Are you trying to write a story but you don’t know where to start? Take a look through your journal for ideas.

Maybe something happened to you one day that could be a perfect scene in your screenplay. Or possibly, you have a friend that could be the main character of your next short story. You could even use the beautiful park you so vividly described at a visit one day for the background of your latest novel.

Sometimes when I am stuck on a story, I can remember faintly something I had written in my journal. A few flips through the pages and I can continue with my story. It’s saved me in many situations from getting caught in writer’s block.

If you are a Creative Writer, You Must Keep a Journal

It is simply a requirement of any creative writer. Keeping a journal will help you to find a voice in your writing, build a large repertoire of ideas, and improve your skills on a regular basis.

If you haven’t already, pick up a notebook and start writing. Write everyday for as long as you can.
